Question about the use of overdrive........

An engine does not fire all cylinders in 360 it fires them in 720 half of cylinders per rotation this is a Four stroke Engine a two stroke such as some dirt bikes will be 2 stroke and all cylinders will fire every 360 degres as far as rear wheel drives being seprate assemblys this is only on some models and rare these days not used much since the mid 90s. Higher Rpms more power depends both on your engines power band as well as once you reach a certain speed you will use the power band in your highest gear/overdrive such as passing on the freeway. For a simple answer the overdrive button dissables the highest gear yes to put you into lower gear to accelerate faste or for towing but does not mean it will push the car as fast as it can go.

I think that's WAY too detailed. Either way you look at it, the more times the crakshaft goes around in a minute, the more gas the vehicle uses. Generally.
