Anyway my friend was making a big deal about it and was saying things like "Thats the only McLaren youll ever see in your life" and suff like that.. Are they really that rare in America?

Are you talking about Mercedes SLR? Or McLaren F1? Because the McLaren SLR is Mercedes and McLaren F1 is BMW.

There are many Porsche 911 Carreras here, and couple Carrera GT's, lamborghinis, Ferraris etc. But no McLarens. 5 SLR's in Finland though.

Actually the McLarens are British, the design and the brains came from the UK, the only thing Mercedes and BMW did was to supply the engines and in Mercedes' case, stick a badge on it.

Really? Any hard facts behind this? I think mercedes has done much more than just sticking a badge on it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_Cars
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_SLR_McLaren

a quote from there..

"In 1999, McLaren Cars agreed to design and manufacture the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren in conjunction with DaimlerChrysler (who also supply engines to the Team McLaren racing team under the Mercedes-Benz brand)."

"The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a sports car and supercar automobile co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars. It is assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England."

Well As the Top Gear presenters said about the SLR when the car was on the show... They wished it was a hell of a lot more McLaren and alot less Mercedes...

What he meant by that was the interior... He was talking about the weight and was hoping it would be more of a supercar, like the Zonda or Koenigsegg.

Read the first quote in my last post...

"who also supply engines to the Team McLaren racing team under the Mercedes-Benz brand"

Indeed, they provide engines in F1 as Mercedes-Benz. In F1. What's with the bold.

The truth is in the eye of the watcher.

Mate there is no mention of F1... I bolded it so you could see that Mercedes just stick a badge on it. And fuck up the interiors etc...

the whole point is you said that the car was a mercedes, and its really not, its designed and built in the UK by McLaren.
