My $0.02 (didn't computers have a "cents" button?), spend a few extra bucks and get yourself at least a 3/4 ton... 'cause once you have a truck you end up using it for things you might not have thought of.
Best of luck man!

i have a new silverado.. the only problem i had is that the serpintene belt started squeeling on moist days... other than that, it's been great... also, i pull a open trailer with my 3600 lbs. camaro on it, and it pulls great and it's a v6...

I have aF150 w/ 5.4 each cylinder has its own coil and changing plugs is a MFer (hard and time consuming) or expensive

In the today world I would say stick with a "solvent" company!
Other than that if you want a truck to do any job pick a DODGE!

Any of the 3 listed are fine, you can get a lemon no matter what brand you get. I have a 2004 F-250 SD, 5.4 4wd 3/4ton, be warned that if you get a 3/4t you will pay with poor gas mileage (12.5 summer / 10-11 winter), also in my state the license plates alone are 150.00yr because its a 3/4t. I only average 7,000m a year so its no big deal, the 3/4t trucks are big and heavy and none of them will get as good of mileage as a 1/2t.

I you get a pickup I'm going to ask you if you will help me move, because that's what I do to people I know with pickups. It's like the pickup-truck tax.

pls define "American made".
There are many excellent "foreign" brand vehicles that are made in America, and many excellent "American" brand vehicles American made using foreign parts?
so I am confused
PS: I have a Ford F150 about as "American" as apple pie - that was made in Canada using parts from other countries, and a Harley Davidson that has foreign made parts.
PPS: get the truck that has the best reputation for reliability and, best local service - regardless of the "brand".

i love my American made vehicles...always drive one. i was just looking to see what other people drive and what their opinions are of them.
and lindros, unfortunately, out of my friends i'd be the only one with a pick up. i already have some people asking me to help them with shit and i don't even own one yet.
as far as solvency of a company goes, warranties are being guaranteed regardless of the company if it goes under. but any mechanic can fix a ford or Chevy.

I have owned 2 Dodge pickups and the transmision went out of both of them. I now own a ford f-150 and have had no problems with it for 4 years. Also I just heard GM is droping pontiac so they can remain in business so how long is it going to be before they will be controled by the government? Ford is the only automaker that has not asked for any money and also the Ford truck has been named the truck of the year by Motor Trend magizine. I would definatly go with the ford because of it's load capicity and reliability.
