You could have lost the main accessory belt, that would kill the power steering and cause the water pump and alternator to stop turning.

did u check to see if your water pump was working, if not it would have overheated the engine and possibly cracked the block casuing radiator fluid to get into the oil. at that point it would seize the engine.

got a question for ya. I have read the whole thread. You said that there is a hose below/near the radiator that does not connect to anything. How big is it? if it is small it is for the transmission cooler, If it is large say 2.5in+ in diameter it is the return hose from your engine to the radiator. Your question about water and coolant. You want 50/50 mixture. Water actually does the cooling. Regardless of common belief. The coolant stops rust, build up ect. It acts like chlorine in a pool. You can by 50/50 premixed coolant. You have a GM car so you need Dexcool, or the orange coolant. I use Prestone 50/50. Your car will not start without coolant. The smoke/steam you have encountered is from coolant hitting the hot engine and exhaust manifold. Since you have oil in the engine your engine should be ok.
I hope that helps you some what. If you need more help PM me. Good Luck!

Dude you gota follow what people are saying

1) Check the oil and see what color it is. Is there foam? VEry very important step. Why your checking to see if there has been a breach between the coolant/oil. This is bad.

2) No hose on bottom? very likely the problem BUT you could have the two hoses coming from top. Basically there should be two hoses going to radiator.

3) Do NOT try to open if its hot. A semi-pro can but you can not. You will burn yourself. It wont start so likely not hot.

Odd that it wont start. I mean if the ignition system got wet it would not start but after this much time it cant still be wet. It might be flooded if you pumped the gas trying to get it to start. I would say its flooded. Wait a day and try again.

Also easy way to find the leak? - fill up the radiator. It may start leaking before you start it. No leaking off? Start it or just turn it over and have someone watch to see if water is spurting out.

Tell us what happened.

But dont forget to check the color of the oil. If its white/brownish - bad news.

just tell him to spend the money to get it looked at... he hasnt given near enough information for a diagnostic. The smoke during cold start seems to indicate a major problem but intil it is looked at there can be no real diagnosis of the problem. I do agree that it most likely overheated but that could have been from the belt, water pump, thermostat, cracked head or a collapsed hose. There was no mention of oil in the anitfreeze or antifreeze in the oil so it seems a relatively safe bet that the head is ok. Regardless it seems a talented individual needs to actually see this and make a determination.

nah I can do it. My dad has an awesome set of tools I can fix it!

He hasnt said what color the oil is so were not sure about the head yet. Otherwise that smoke has to be steam from an opening in the hose/radiator. Im guessing hose b/c he didnt see it on bottom. But compeltly off?

omg it just hit me. I bet the scumbags at the oil place loosened it trying to get return business. Auto shops ...second biggest scam next to auto insurance.
