You're forgetting the most important factor: all those horses are coming out of a souped-up inline 4.
[/reply]

Why is that the most important factor ?

Let me go check out this car ....

lol 2.0 rally engine with 286 bhp to all 4 wheels which weighs half ur mustang. thus reducing ur stang to a smirch on my rear view mirror.

What are you talking about? A Stang GT weighs in at 3700 lbs... the EVO at 3200. I'm not going to knock the EVO's performance, it's hella good for a 2.0 Litre, but give the Stang its props. You're looking at 0-60 in 5.2 secs (for a good stick driver) for about $26K starting. The EVO can't touch that when you factor in it is $5-10k more starting.

While we're looking a price vs. performance... you better roll out the GT's big brother, the 2007 Mustang Shelby Cobra. 475 HP/TQ for around $35-$40K... course, they'll get marked up, but now you're in the performance neighborhood of the FQ340 for over $10k cheaper.

So enjoy looking at your EVO, sweet machine, but you might want to read about the competition before knocking it.

What about fuel consumption, EVO vs. Mustang GT? OK, you can get Mustang for lower price, but over the years, which one will cost more? Insurance, fuel and other little funny facts. I'm always thinking the final price that way.

I guess I'm a gas-guzzling American, but I don't really care about fuel economy. I want power and performance. Still with that in mind, we're talking about a turbo-charged I4 with the EVO so it's not getting great gas mileage either... like 18-19 to the gallon city, and the Stang is getting 15-17 city. Not much to analyze here in terms of savings.

As for insurance, neither car is going to be cheap to insure, but with the higher list price of an EVO it is naturally going to cost more to insure. The stang also gets VERY GOOD crash safety ratings, and while the EVO does good, better crash ratings lowers insurance costs for that vehicle.

In the end, it looks like a break-even to me. You can bring up maintenance, and I'm not sure which car will last longer... they'll both sure as hell last longer than the SRT4s.

u know what really pisses me off is when people say that there little motors are fuel efficient, but when they are running that much hp theyll be lucky to get over 20mpg

half as much as a mustang eh? last time i checked foxbodies weigh in at about 3200 pounds, and this jap car weighs the exact same...and if u wanna go somewhere in a straight line u go rwd not awd, id like to see how much more power u could get out of that lil 2L before the connecting rods snap..mustangs are superior to just about anything on the road in terms of potential and will smash on any import with the right mods

yes ofcourse a straight line thats why i didnt specify a "RALLY MOTOR" dude ive seen that car kill 350z's and stangs the stock MR which i posted the price earlier. ahh heres the lovely kiker the uk version which the guy talked about and this is the evo 8 not the 9 here read for urself "At 202.9 hp (151.3 kW) per litre, it has one of the highest specific output per litre of any roadcar engine. With a curb weight of around 3200lbs, it achieves a 0-60 in 3.5 seconds" 3.5 seconds is gt3 territory.
edit: u said it "mustangs are superior to just about anything on the road in terms of potential and will smash on any import with the right mods" umm the vo comes WITH THE RIGHT MODS and warranty on them.. hehe the stang is great ive seen some great stangs in my time but in terms of stock WAY ahead of ya

enjoy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Lancer_Evolution

id really like to know where your getting these bullshit statistics from?, 'highest specific output per litre of any roadcar engine', its fucking twinturbo'd for christ sakes...u can get 200hp gains at the wheel on a stock 5L from the right turbo, and the 4.6 4vs would be gaining even more than that!

why the hell would u want to buy this car in the first place? its barely affordable and its made for rally racing which i doubt u can even name anyone u know that does that type of shit...if u want something thats fast and street drivable get a real car like a pony or a supra
