My Gf works for Cosworth and one of the management got there son a sporty little number to drive after passing his test, so as you can imagine 17 year old lad new sporty car showing off to his girlfriend. 3 hours after passing his test he was on a slab and his 16 year old gf in ICU and it dosen't look good for her. Now I have no room to talk my first car was a Mk2 Mexico and it went like the wind and had an exhaust that you could hear from space, but like I've said before I can drive a bit and do think of myself of a exception, example I have a 15 year old nephew whos mind is always somewhere else and the thought of him being let lose on public highways in 18 months is enough to make me give up driving for ever.
So in conclusion I think it's time to restrict young drivers or anyone that have just passes there test to limited Hp.

I agree. Young drivers need longer probationary periods. No passengers, limited driving times etc. etc. etc. Not to mention parents need to be responsible and not buy their kid a 300hp monster sports car. But who said anything about people being responsible when they have kids?

Yes agree with what you talking about but the good news is where Im from that is law.

Kids get thier L`s ( learners permit ) permit at 16.9 months of age, they must hold it for over 50 hours of driving lessons , then they can apply for thier Red P`s ( provisional permit) they can only drive cars with 4 cyclinders and they are not permitted to drink. This permit lasts for 12 months then they can apply for their Green P`s same condition apply but they must wait 3 years til they can apply for a normal standard licence.

Also they are now considering having a cerfew on non standard licence holders and when you are on your P`s are not permitted more than one passenger in the car without a exmeption from the government.

As for the boy with the car his father should of known better , did he forget what we are like when we first get our licence

You hear these stories way to often... And more often than not, it is some innocent pedestrian or another driver that is the one killed or put into the hospital as a result of an inexperienced driver! Although I got my liscense when I turned 16, I really think that 16 is too young! But if people insist on giving 16 year old's their liscense, then more rules and/or laws need to be established putting limits such as the number of passengers in the car on such young drivers.

My 2 cents...

I got my licence at 15...Mississippi...my first car was a 1973 Cougar with a 351 cu inch motor...it could run 145mph...never put a scratch on it...both me and the car are still here 22 years later...bottom line...some people are ready to drive at 15 some can't drive at 40...judgement?...same thing. It seldom snows or gets cold enough to ice the roads in Mississippi so the state has no means to remove it...I drive about 15-20mph...mr 4-wheel drive passes me doing 50...I pass him in a little while he gets to know mr ditch, tree, ect...A hp limit...you can get killed on a zero hp skateboard. The law can set a age limit...hp limit...seatbelt laws...ect...but it can't take the place of one thing...PARENTS...its YOUR kid you should know him/her they can't get a licence without your permission[even in Mississippi].

yea, just after high school, my friend died in a car wreck. a jetta versus a tractor at 80 mph (128 kph). I was suppost to have been w/ him at the time but a last minute change left him alone that day. We both drove pretty wreckless at the time. After the funeral, I drove much more conservative. The were still showing those "red asphault" videos when I got my Hummer license from the military, and I think either the videos or a visit to the morge to see crash victims might curb a good portion of young lead-foots.

Like RedboR, I'm from Australia, and our restrictions are pretty thorough. Funny how its only the dickheads who hoon that die, and kill others. Its not a question of age, but of individual maturity. I occasionally go over the limit (usually unintentionally), have had a few speeding fines, but have never felt the urge to drive like a fool. My first car was an 85 Ford Fairmont 8 cylinder. For those of you who dont know, a big, heavy, very powerful vehicle. What they need is maturity restrictions...if you could measure such a thing. Truthfully, I think bringing up the age limit to 20 or so wouldn't hurt. Still, given that I'm 26, that easy for me to say. Ask me at 18 and I'd had a different answer.
