I have a problem, my car is an '89 Dynasty LE,3.0L,V6, fuel injected. I lent it out for 1 day and got it back with a crack in the block(which i already fixed) and when you turn the key to shut it off, it wont turn off, you can take the key out, but the car keeps running, and all the lights are still lit up on the dash. I have to disconnect the battery and pull 1 or 2 plug wires to shut it down. I am somewhat knowledgable when it comes to cars, but this is a stumper. I already replaced the ignition module(attached to the steering column), checked the distributor, replaced the plugs and wires, checked for vaccuum leaks. I think that there Might be a short somewhere but am not sure, and i am getting really frustrated,as it is my only transportation. Could someone help me out Please!!!

you were able to fix a cracked block, but cant shut it down?

have you checked the electronics in the steering column?

I have done some rearch on this, and found out this...

1. 12v short somewhere...
2. or tumbler in the ignition is stuck...

I just used some block sealer and added it to the rad. Yes i checked the electronics in the steer column, thats what i'm stumped about. Is there a relay switch that i am not checking? is there a relay switch for the ignition?

just so you know...stuff you add to the radiator to fix the block are not a long term fix.

and will probably go out on you at the worst possible time.

just a friendly warning.

Thanx Eric, that would be just my luck that i get the ignition fixed then the block cracks again.Scotts-town; getting the key out is not the problem, i cant get the ignition to shut down, but thanx for looking, and i'll look into the short(it'll take a while though),,Ominous Bunny; Is there an ignition relay, thats what i am unsure of?

Finally i figured out what the problem was and fixed it about a week ago..Turns out it was the remote starter(it unlocked the doors as well), a few days before this all happened, rain got into the locks and they acted funny(locking and unlocking by themselves), well, i was sitting there with the dash all taken apart, and staring at all the wires, and i thought i might as well disconnect the remote starter and see if that would fix the problem,,and whatdya know,,problem solved,,turns out the remote starter fried and it's wires were all intertwined with the ignition wires,so in turn,it was shorting out the ignition as well.Woohoo, finally got it running proper again...But thanks for all the advice and suggestions guys.
