got the right viscocity oil?
sure you didn't put too thin an oil in?
k probably not after reading the rest of the post, seems you have an idea about stuff
for 2, did you check the oil/radiator, no shit in either one? could have a cracked head, doubtful though, but could be the reason, it'd run like a real dog if it had one, bout $500 to fix.
put in 20/50 but it started when I had pure synthetic in. No oil and water mix either. Still scratching my head. Its running rougher too but not like a miss more like a rough vibration.
Hey the reason your oil pressure is so high at start up is becuase the motor isnt warmed up. Oil viscosity is different at different temperatures. The pressure cold is 80 because the oil is thicker which translates into higher pressure. Once it gets hot its easier to move which is why you see a drop in pressure. Most vehicles will run warm between 35-45 so your pressure is not out of the ordinary. If the car got to hot for to long you have a chance of warping the head but im pretty sure jeeps arent aluminum heads so you should be safe. Flush the coolant system and change the plugs and wires and see what happens. On oil change couldnt hurt either.

Thanks slam thats a relief. Im still gettin a judder and an occasional change in sound/feel when I push in the clutch. Standing at the engine compartment w hood open engine sounds fine. From inside thou theres a deep heavy rattle/vibration. No smoke from exhaust, no leaking oil, no oil/water mix. I did have a new clutch/pressure plate put in about six months ago. Im thinking maybe I warped the pressure plate. The flywheel is cast iron I think so I dont think I warped that. Maybe the bolts are coming loose? Your sure 35-45 is ok psi for oil? I hope so.
35-45 psi is fine. there's no way you warped the crank or flywheel. if your throwout bearing is going out, it's not related to the overheating incident, it's just coincidence.
Things took a turn for the worst. So a day or so ago I start it up and let it run on its own b/c its super cold here. (I have anti-freeze). I go out to take off about 40 min later. Temperature at like 200 which is the thermostat I put in. Oil pressure about 35. Fine right. No its running like crap. I mean there brand new plugs. Im gona pull em to see what they look like. But heres the bad news. white smoke out the back im sure its part steam b/c its cold but also part smoke im pretty sure. Decent size puddle of oil or trans fluid under the middle of the car. Some smoke from engine compartmetn. Not a lot though. So I did have a prob w the gearbox a couple of weeks ago. A hose that runs to the top came out and a lot of fluid leaked but I put it back in and refilled it. Shift about the same afteward.
Whats weird is that the fluid is in the middle of the car not near the front under the engine. I need to swab it and smell it. I can generally tell the diff b/w oil and gear fluid by sight and smell. I was too disgruntled. Been working on this dam Jeep for like two years just to get it normal and it was going great till stupid me pushes the edge to change a stupid water pump. 25$!!!!!!!! for the water pump and it took me less than an hour. I think it was too late tho b/c something is wrong.
God it was running great. weber carb and headers. sheesh. I may scrap it and buy another car. Its either pay someone to fix it. 1k ez. (assuming engines blown). Fix it myself which means having to get another car in the mean time anyway while its down. Or just throw in the towel and get another car and sell it for like nothing.
Like the song goes - what did i? what did I? what did I do to deserve this?
or y does it always rain on me is it because I lied when I was seventeen.
Lol ok ok enuf groveling.
Hey dont give up I know sometimes it seems like its impossible to get engins right but take a look the steem in the exaust is your head gasket it may have not blown when the car got hot but it could have damaged it just enough to give the smoke is one of two things either your valves in your head are not closing enough do to heat crack or your piston rings are screwed wich are easly replaced assuming youm get a book and take your time your plug problem might not be your plugs if their new and for your jeep and gaped right you need to check your wires and make sure you have them in the right fireing order if your not sure what it is look on the orignal intake you may have to clean off grum to see it but it should be their most of the time that is the problem if it is your valves that you find out is your problen just take your head or heads off depending if you have the straight six or not and take them to an machine shop and ask for a valve job if your not sure where one is depending on where you live in the states look up O'reilly auto parts I used to work in one of their machine shops in FTworth I also used to work as a mechanic for Don Davis Lincoln Mercury back in the day Ill make sure and ask one of my friends for a second opinion he works as a mechanic for BMW and I'll get back with you if you check this out befor i get back let me know what kind of engin you have.
Wow thanks I appreciate your help. 4.2 straight six. Its 10 degrees outside so I either have to suck it up and check the plugs/wires in this weather or throw eggs at my car from the second floor. (think that will help??)
woooohooooooooo ty tytyttytytyttytytytyytyt You guys thanks for the advice and encouragement. It wasnt anything serious. Brand new plugs before but one of em wasnt firing. Pulled it out clean as a whistle. The rest lots of carbon from my too rich weber but other than that no oil no water. sweet sweet sweet. Replaced em all adjusted the timing a bit (mustve been loose b/c it was not in same place)
And she is singing sweet music. mmm I can hear a loose lifter and a bit of a miss but it sounds greaaattt!! Still have an oil leak could be loose oil pan bolts or the hole which was welded on that pan is coming un done but nothing to worry about.
So im gona keep it - put the lift on I have already bought - some super swampers or some other oversize.
Bottom line my new engine is still new. Teaches me a lesson though - next time it overheats Ill push till I fix the issue. Thanks again guys for all the help.
jeep= just empty every pocket
that is cool I will have to add that to my list of car acrnyms

I have great advice for you. I bet the plugs you put in that didnt work were bosch. Do not use these they are pieces of trash. I work at Pepboys and see so many vehicles come back with bad spark plugs when we put bosch in. Put NGKs in small engines and Japanese cars. Put ACdelcos in Gms and Autolites in everything else. These are much better plugs.
pontiac Poor Old Nigger thinks It A Cadillac
damit damit damit Its still runin rough. I put in a weber 38/38. Running way too rich and there hard to tune. At least its not blown though.
