got one of the damnest problems. engine runs fine , step on the gas it goes dead 1996 altima. any ideas as to what is wrong

Altimas aren't carb'ed.

Is there an error code? So far, it could be several things.

Yeah, it almost sounds like you need a garage with a computer hookup to determine if there is a part failure. Of course, this only works about 50 percent of the time.

your car is definitley possessed, you need to get an exorcism on your car.

(otherwise, yeah, check the error code it gives you, there should maybe be a site online you can get the code readings from )

Change your air filter.

buy a new car.

Go to a retail automotive parts shop.

They give code reds (error diagnostics) for free.
