Car Trouble * Any Help Much Appreciated

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer with 180,000 miles on the clock. It has just had a brand new fuel pump within the last 5 or 6 months. But now, whenever it rains over night the next day my car will not start - guaranteed. It tries to start on the first attempt and after that it jus turns n turns. It will only start again about 4 or 5 hours later (if it doesnt rain again) This has also happened recently when its not rained at all.

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Sounds like a basic problem of american cars. I've seen rain affecting them before, doors getting locked and unlocked, electric windows rolling up and down. Crazy.

I guess the seals let water through to the engine bay and distributor gets wet. If you open it and there's moisture, there's your problem. Really common in french and american cars.

What he said though I did have a similar problem with an old Land Rover so it not just he French and US. Another possiblity is the temperature diffrence when it rains (not knwiing wher you live) causing condensaiton guil up of moitsutre that might already be in fuel line. Might consider flush the fuel one with an additive to remove moisture.

Try spraying a water repelant like WD 40 on all the HT leads and dizzy cap and see what happens
Iff That fails sell it and get a russian car, My Lada starts first time every time evn when it is -20

I opened the bonnet this morning and its dry. It was raining most of last night though. And i love in Texas, so its been around 70's for a while.

HT leads are the leads that conect to your spark plugs and at the other end of them you will find the distributor cap (dizzy cap)

Eh, My family members all drive foreign vehicles and they have the same problem. Honda, Nissan, granted they are all older, but they're going to be if they have a distributer still on them. I've had 3 cars, 2 American and one foreign and never had this problem personally sooooooo.

That's odd yeah. My '90 civic has started every time, even on -30 C. I guess your people just had bad luck. Finland, the land of weathers. If it works in here, it has to be a good one.
