Car broken into the other night...

So I am visiting a friend over the weekend in our Nation's beautiful capitol, and have my car parked at his place for just TWO damn nights. He lives in a nice area, but nearby neighborhoods are a little rough. I knew where I was going, so decided to take my crappier car with barely any valuables in it: a 10-year old radar detector and a CB that is about 20 years old, and my golf clubs in the trunk. Some dumb asshole decides he has to be inside my car so badly that he destroys the passenger side door lock AND handle with a screwdriver with caveman-like skill, setting off the alarm in the process, which is probably why he didn't bother to check the trunk or the glovebox, which is where the radar detector and golf clubs were. Not only was this waste of good oxygen so stupid that he couldn't even figure out that this was a friggin Dodge Neon and that it is SO easy to break into one of these cars doing no damage, but he passed up my other friend's non-alarmed Ford Explorer which contained another set of golf clubs IN PLAIN view, as well as a console containing an iPod and CD's all over the place.

The lock is no big deal, since I am a mechanic and my neighbor is a locksmith, so I already got a new handle from the junkyard today for $4 and rekeying it's lock to match my key will be another $5. I spent 10 times that on beer & food that weekend! The point is, what the hell is wrong with people? It is the principle of the whole thing.

Whatever happened to the concept of thieves losing thier hands? The thought of never jerking off again may have deterred this moron.

Just thought i would use my first post as a rant. Thank you for listening.

Welcome and thanks for the rant. You should consider yourself lucky that the damage wasn't worse.

you were lucky that it only cost you $9, it could of been a lot worse. it is just the fact that you had to repair what some a**hole did.

don't worry, be happy. welcome to the site.

Neons are Dodges? They are sold as Chryslers in Finland.

read this again and wonder- how on God's green Earth did he fit his golf clubs in the glove box? did the 9-iron handle sticking outta the dash not give it away to the thief where his stuff was?

Yeah, I know. Car companies sell same cars undrer different brands in different countries. Astra (a cheap piece of shit by German Opel, part of GM, US guys have probably never heard of it) is sold at least under Opel, Vauxhall and Chevrolet(!) brands.

What I don't get is that my dad used to have a Dodge van. If they sell vans as Dodges, why on Earth do they sell Dodge cars as Chryslers?

I read the thread and I hear ya. I feel your pain. The hand thing is a little extreme though. Why not just cut off his willy. That would scare the hell out of this would be robber and then you could hand his valuables back to him and he could go to a clinic and get it sewed back on.
