Car and Driver had an article in their April edition (okay I'm a little slow) about the re-design on the TT. I have always liked this car but from the pictures, the new designs is an improvement.

Here's a blurb from the Car and Driver Article:

The gorgeous original didn’t need much fixing, so the new TT stays true to form, and this time it's got an aluminum structure.
April 2006

German Audi officials apparently couldn’t bear to launch their new TT in the U.S., so its official debut in Berlin preceded the 2006 New York auto show by a few days. Regardless of where you see it, the new TT looks good, especially the new-style grille and lights whose design borrows heavily from the upcoming Audi R8 and the LeMans concept from a few years back. The trademark TT shape remains, although it has been tweaked to look more aggressive and leaner. Wheel sizes start at 17 inches and climb to 19 inches. The 19-inch wheels lend an aggressive stance and fill out the characteristic fenders handsomely. Powertrains echo those in the related Audi A3; a front-wheel-drive model will have a 200-hp direct-injection 2.0-liter turbo four and an all-wheel-drive model will have the carryover 250-hp 3.2-liter V-6. Audi claims 0 to 62 mph times of 6.4 seconds for the four and 5.7 seconds for the six. As before, transmission choices are a traditional six-speed manual and the much-heralded six-speed twin clutch direct-shift gearbox (DSG). The big news about the new TT is that it’s got an aluminum (69%) and steel (31%) structure to save weight and increase rigidity. The TT's structure is aluminum from the B-pillar forward. Behind the B-pillar it’s largely steel. Audi claims that the use of aluminum in the front of the car allows for better weight distribution. Other high-tech features include available adaptable magnetic damping, MMI infotainment control, and voice-activated Bluetooth phone controls. At this writing we haven’t driven the new TT, but if it’s as much improved as other recent cars utilizing similar components (think Volkswagen GTI), we’re in for a treat. By the time the new TT goes on sale in early 2007, it will be sold as a 2008 vehicle.

Shhhhh....

Oops. I'll fix that link in a minute

Here's what Left Lane News had to say about the car.......

Audi today revealed the much-anticipated 2007/2008 Audi TT Coupe. The car represents an evolution of the original's design, with considerably more aggressive styling. The new TT is larger (5 inches longer, 3 inches wider), and completely re-engineered. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of Audi's new corporate face — aggressive headlights coupled with a large grille. The car is available with a four- or six-cylinder engine. The latter of which produces 250 hp and enables the TT to hit 62 mph in 5.7 seconds via its Quattro all-wheel-drive. (The 200hp model is only offered with front-drive). The car has a spoiler that deploys at 75 mph. The interior of the car is also vastly different, all of which can be seen in our photo gallery after the jump…

Two powerful gas engines are available to power the car. The 2.0l turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI unit featuring FSI direct injection develops 200 hp. With a six-speed manual gearbox, it accelerates the TT to 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. The sonorous-sounding, naturally aspirated 3.2-litre V6 engine develops 184 kW (250 bhp), accelerating from zero to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically governed).

Both engines are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. On request they can be combined with the dynamic S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Whereas the four-cylinder engine comes with front-wheel drive, the V6 distributes its power across both axles by way of the quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.

The Audi dynamic suspension was newly developed and tuned for the TT Coupe. One of its hallmarks is its self-steering behaviour right up to the handling limits, which ranges from neutral to light understeer. This sporty orientation produces driving fun, agility and supreme handling characteristics.

The track enlargement, with larger wheels ranging from 16 to 19 inches in size, and extensive changes in the area of elastokinematics were key areas of the developers’ work. The new multi-link rear suspension ensures optimum driving dynamics at a sports car level.

The high-tech Audi magnetic ride damper system is available as an option. In this system, tiny magnetic particles circulate in the oil inside the shock absorbers. When a voltage is applied to them, they alter the damping characteristics within milliseconds. This adaptive system simultaneously ensures high levels of ride comfort and thoroughly sporty dynamism, according to the specific driving scenario and the preferences of the driver.

The standard features of the new Audi TT include an automatic air conditioning system and a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel. The latter is not only entirely suitable for the sports car but also makes it easier to get in and out. The air vents, steering wheel spokes and many of the controls are finished in an aluminium look.

To be honest, I hate the current TT and the earlier models. This new design is fucking great! It doesn't look so stupid anymore, it has the real sportscar look, spiced with audi style. Awesome, you can always count on Audi!
