Audi R10 race car versus Harrier Jump Jet....

Audi's R10 diesel Le Mans race car took on a Harrier GR7 "Jump Jet" in front of a crowd of 5,000 at the Royal Air Force in Goodwood, England this week. Despite the 650-hp Audi R10 TDI being designed to start races from a "rolling" as opposed a "standing start", the diesel car was quicker off the line and in the lead for almost the whole one-kilometer distance before the 15,000-bhp combat aircraft overtook the Audi by literally a "nose" before it took off in front of a 5,000 crowd. "It was essentially a 'fun' race," explained Audi factory driver Allan McNish. "But when a racing driver and a pilot get together it quickly becomes serious. To come so close beating a Harrier jet-fighter was a tremendous achievement once again for Audi TDI Power – especially if you consider that we didn't modify the R10 TDI for this 'race'."

Michael Schuhmacher did that with his F1 ferrari af few years ago. he won the short distances but lost the long distance race. i think his opponent was a Eurofighter

I remember a video where McLaren F1, MotoGP bike (can't remember the team, sponsoring by West and driving by Loris Capirossi) and the third was some Mercedes-Benz sportcar. It's many years ago, but the McLaren F1 won the track lap.

Everybody knows cars can beat jets in short races. The jet has nothing to push off on but air and that takes awhile to build up pressure.

I vaguely remember something about air & thrust in flight school. If only I'd paid more attention.

But, I disagree with the general proposition. A jet engine the size of a pencil would fare poorly in the 1/4 mile against a Volkswagen. Whereas, most cars would probably not beat a jet off the line. You are taking about one aspect of acceleration only and I think you missed the point my friend.

With F1 I meant the Formula1 car. If I remember right, David Coulthard drove it in that vid.
