The first car I ever owned was a Ford. Every month it would break, and cost me between $400 and $1000 to fix it. I owned it for two years. i paid more to continually fix it than i did to buy it.
1. Ford used a metal bendix in the starter, which chewed the ring gear off of the flywheel, forcing me to replace that AND the clutch, which was only half worn.
2. The shift boot broke. the
shift boot. try driving when 1st gear is back and right, second is even farther back and slightly left, 3rd is AWOL, and fourth is so far up the shifter touches the dashboard. I never did find 5th either. Reverse was roughly dead center, which made going from 2nd to 4th awkward.
3. Ford riveted the frame together. The rivets were all rusting apart when I sold the car.
4. Need I say: lower body rust? I'm damned good at body work because of it, though. Also, both hinges on the hatch rusted thru. I opened the hatch once and it damn near fell on me.
5. Both the radiator and the heater core failed at once. The heater core leaked
inside the car. To remove the heater core, I had to break the interior fan.
I've owned a full size chevy truck for two and a half years now. Its built like a tank, and has none of the above problems. Here are the problems I have had with it:
1. I went in for a recall on a piece of drivetrain that clicked when i took of from a stop.
* crickets *
