Five facts about Turkey,
1) We are not Arab, Persian or any of others, we are Türks. In fact, Kazakhs, Kirgizs, Azeris, Türkmens, Uzbeks, Tatars, Cecens, Cerkes, Karaims, Kazans, Yakuts, Uygurs, Pomaks and Cremaens are all Turks. That makes about 200 million of people approximately in 7 distinct countries and countless autonomous countries. We have same ancestors with Hungarians, Bulgarian and some of Finnish.
2) Yoghurt is invented by us, furthermore Raki and canned food are so.
Just because of Raki, alcohol consumption is very high, but percentage of other drinks like beer and whiskey is much lower.
3) We DONT use arabic alphabet, instead we use regular Latin Alphabet.
4) Turkey is the second country that gives women the right to vote and the first that gives women the right to be voted.
5) There are many people believes in Christianity or Judaism but almost 96 percent is Muslim.

There are lots of more.

3. We have the 2nd. largest amount of proven oil reserves in the entire world behind Saudi Arabia.

4. The paint roller was invented here. (whoohoo...)

5. We produce wine and some of it is pretty damn good.

Canadian beer has a greater alcohol content than US beer, and tastes better. They legal drinking age is 19yrs. And we make some damn fine ice wine.

A Canadian invented the telephone and the game of basketball.

Pam Anderson is Canadian - we're split on if this is something to be proud of.

To become a famous and recognized Canadian - you have to work/move to the US.

We have two official languages: English and French - but very few (relatively) 'Canadians' speak french - more people speak other languages.

Currently there are talks about getting heavier weaponry to every car, such as NATO standard M4's.

And they all look like a hard-trained superman. No weak link in our Police forces, if we look physically and mentally. Tough cookies.

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada.

The word "Toronto" comes from the Huron Indian word for "meeting place."

Toronto is home to the world's tallest freestanding structure, the CN Tower, its longest street, Yonge Street, and the only stadium in the world that has a fully retractable roof, the SkyDome (now Rogers Center). ***Anyone know differently about the dome fact?***

The City of Toronto publishes official and city-wide announcements in five languages -- English, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese. Frequently, Spanish and Vietnamese are also used. Toronto was named by UNESCO as the world's most multicultural city

With the exception of New York and Los Angeles, there are more movies made in Toronto than anywhere else in North America - and Toronto and other Canadians cities are used to depict US cities. Hollywood North.

Although many people think of Toronto as being "north" it is actually further south than much of Michigan and all of Minnesota. It's also at the same latitude as the northern California border, and as far south as the French Riviera.

Sports teams are the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL hockey), Toronto Raptors (NBA basketball) and Toronto ArgoNauts (CFL football).

Toronto is the bike theft capital of North America.

Famous persons from Toronto; John Candy (comedian/actor), Director David Cronenberg, Walter Jennings (ABC NEWS USA), Norman Jewison (Director/Actor), Howie Mandel(Actor/Comedian), Eric McCormack (actor Will and Grace), Lorne Michael (SNL), Keanu Reeves (Matrix - grew up here), Mike Meyers (actor - Austin Powers).

Pronunciation of "TORONTO" (The proper stress is on the second syllable.)

Locals sometimes pronounce the city's name as "Toronno" or "Tronno", "Tronto", "Toranna", "Taranna", "Chronno" (with ch as in chime, not chrome), "Chranna" or even "Terawhnna". This is a reflection of the varieties of Canadian pronunciation and does not represent a unique pronunciation for the city name itself. For instance, many Canadians pronounce the number "ninety nine" as something between "9-D-9" and "9-E-9", whereas many Britons or East Indians will distinctly pronounce "9-T-9". Thus while it is natural that many Canadians will say "Toronno", speakers whose dialects pronounce the "T" distinctly in words like "ninety nine" should do likewise when pronouncing "Toronto". In each case, the speaker merely pronounces "Toronto" in the way that is most natural in his or her dialect. Some Torontonians would often identify a local if he/she says "Toronno".
Even for Canadian speakers it is never outright incorrect to pronounce distinctly the second t in Toronto, and some local pedants do so. Pronouncing it "Tor-on-toe" (with equal stress on each syllable) in casual speech is usually seen as a sign of someone who is not a native of the city. Canadian francophones pronounce it, "To-ron-to", in three syllables, with the french nasal on on the second syllable, and the accent on the third syllable.
