Voting and great photos

When I made the transition from lurker to poster. One thing that always surprised me was how a photo would have so many views and very few votes.
Recently, I decided I was going to set a goal of voting on every photo in the sections I like.
Not realistic? Probably.
I keep coming across photos like this one.

Almost 1000 views and 13 votes.
Don't know where I'm going with this. Just making an observation.

I rechecked the photo and it was nice to see an additional 10 votes but there were like 150 more views. Nobody seems to want to be voter 25. What's wrong here? Are people worried other photos will lower their own scores? By the way, the photo has nothing to do with me.

The problem is WBW has a HUGE leech problem. There are so many people who look at stuff on our site, and don't ever contribute. It's not that hard, if you're looking at the pictures, to click a number and rate it when you're done. Though small, this is a contribution.

Personally, when I look at the pictures, I try to rate and comment(unless I'n in hot or not).

I don't always, but I try. Especially with the voting.

You could vote neutrally. Throw out a five.
It doesn't have to be a positive vote.

I agree with that in one sense.

One the one hand, maybe you don't want to cause a pic to have a low score with what you think that pic should be rated, so you don't give it a rating. That's fine.

Also, as he said, if you can't be positive with it, just leave it as it.


On the other hand, this means that there could potentially be a lot of pics that are not rated.

Personally, the majority of the votes I give out are between a 2 and 7. My votes, like 90% of the time are the same as the average score of the pic, so it's not like I'm bringing down the score of the pic.

I would much prefer to get a nice rating. My average vote would probably be around a 6 on the various photos. I throw out quite a few 10s and 1s.
When you spend time looking for photos it's kind of nice to get the voting feedback that would put you on top of the babes. However briefly. And you need 25 votes to get there.
