Tagging questions

Hey guys,

I'm actually a big fan of the tagging thing but have to admit that I do it far too unfrequently. The reason is probably that I still have not yet understood some details of the tagging system.

- "Your tags"
Okay, thats the tags I have applied to a picture. But thats it, right? Performing a tag search does not include these. As soon as a certain amount of people (it was like 10 in the beginning, is that still valid?) places the same tags (or a tag mod does) they become permanent. There is no possibility that a tag search that I perform takes regard of these, too, is it?

- "250 posts"
I just read that in the help section under "How come I cannot tag pictures?". I have less than 250 (forum!)posts (which are taken into that count, just forum or also comments, uploads, etc?), but actually can tag pictures - as described above they appear as "your tags". Does that maybe even mean these tags I apply are completely worthless?

So, to make a long story short, what do I have to do in order for my tags to be useful for everybody (including me, ahem ) when searching for tags? I mean, lets be honest, what is the greatest motivation to tag pics? That you yourself can find these via the tag search, isn't it? If it means that I have to make 250 forum posts first, then hell yeah, lets do it!

P.S. The most recent thread about tagging is already some months old - if you mods wish to merge this new thread with one of the older ones, feel free to do so!

Cmon people you leave me waiting for like two weeks now. I don't expect much, but at least not to be left without any attention here.

Maybe its just an insightful coincidence that my sponsor membership expired just the other day. Saves me EUR 55.

I'd answer if I knew the answers...

Your tags are always useful. (Unless they're like, totally wrong as to the descriptive status of the pic, but that's not an issue here).

The tag system, as last I knew, requires more than one person to tag the same thing in order for the tag to show up to everyone. This is to avoid tag-spamming and intentional erroneous tagging of pictures. I'm not sure what exactly the threshold is, but each time you tag a photo, you are one closer to making that a permanent tag which can be useful for searching. That's basically just saying that your initial understanding of the tag system is accurate.

I don't know what the threshold is currently, although I do know that there was talk of lowering it from the initial 10. I also don't know how the 250 forum posts thing works with regard to the tagging system, so I can't really answer that question. Perhaps Diz, or one of the coding moderators can help with those questions.

Sorry.
