simple question about topics

Why is at one time there is 1 page of topic , the next 8 pages, 3 pages etc....what determines how many threads are viewable from the "view new posts"?

Whether there are new posts since the last time you logged in or not.

it has to do with there being posts in certain topics within a specific range of time, the system considers them "new" and therefore throws them into the /getnew/



it doesnt actually have anything to do with posts since the last time the specific member logged in or refreshed, or we would each have our own individual /getnew/... can you imagine the system continuously calculating that out for the mass amount of members that we have?
