i would like to spend some time with some dutch girls to learn their languae. along with a few other things.
A lot of the people on here that use improper grammar actually are Americans. In fact many of the people from non-English speaking countries have better English than some of the Americans. You can usually tell if the person is an American or a non-English speaker, though, just by the types of mistakes they make. Non-English speakers tend to use "proper" English I.E. "Fetch" rather than "Get." Or they use the incorrect verbals. On the other hand, the poor English of the Americans tends to be problems with spelling and which homonym to use. (There, Their, and There is the most common example)
But those are just my thoughts on the subject.
Please can we stop the discussion of not speaking or writing good English. It's a good discussion when i write massage insteat of message you can smile about it because it's funny. We are an international site and there are a lot of people who try to communicate in English. Please let us help eachother and not give critics it has no use. The only thing what is happening is that a lot of funny and nice people not want to write on the forum and i think that's not what we want.
Senja, that was how I meant my previous message to sound, although it may not have come across that way.
We're one big happy family. Who cares if we speak properly.

hudad please don't think the same of all Americans. Having been born and raised to the age of 12 in the states then moving to Scotland with my mum and dad we are not all that bad with our spelling and grammer. I have been in Scotland for the last 14 years I consider myself Scottish but deep in my heart I know I am an American and feel a certain amount of dissappointment with the comments about Americans. Also bear in mind that to an American it may be the correct way to spell. For example in America its color but in Britain its colour
Hudad, no a fence but eye have only one thing too say. Yoo menshun that americuns spel very badley and that there grammar aint proper. I found you're eggsample very amusing. There, their and there? Im goin out on a lim here but i thot that we only had one "there" and take it that yoo ment THEY'RE. Y dont yoo perfect you own grammar and speling befour kritisizin the Americuns. Luv from an Americuns Scottish fiancee
Duderino meant to say 'why the fuck do you care?' once again a small mistake ends up in miscommunication. I think he was trying to say why does it get to you that people point out your mistakes.
Everyone will make mistakes at some stage. Always assume the best from people when reading their posts ... little mistakes can cause rifts when people take the wrong meaning from someone's post
i speak spanish, but poorly simply because it is not my first language...however, i would actually prefer to have my mistakes corrected because i could further learn the language...
I agree with deucegame. I am studying about 10 different languages, and it is incredibly useful when someone corrects me when I do something wrong (which is often). However, it is only useful when the person corrects you in a respectful manner, understanding that you are trying your best to learn of their language and culture. The problem with correcting people on the internet, however, is that it tends to be hard to correct someone respectfully without typing a long paragraph of humble apology for your correction.
i agree bossman, the internet also doesn't allow tone of voice and body language understandings...sarcasm is not easy to detect and misunderstandings are plentiful
As y'all can tell, I am in the US. Lived in Canada, and have rudimentary ability to converse in Spanish and French.
I also have a BS Degree, and a Masters.
And I'll be the first to admit, I am a horrid speller. I have to re-read my posts, and correct them before I submit them.
I type faster than I used to, so I often mistype. (miss-type? Mis-type? Ah, you know.)
I don't fault anyone who communicates in English, if it is not their first language. I'm impressed that they try. I don't have a stone to throw at them.
Y'all just need to remember, why we are all here.
For very hot ... Cars.
addition: i was always told growing up that english was one of the most difficult languages to master...i mean think, "i am", "you are", "he is", etc...that's way harder than spanish, the only other language i know shit about
If English is your second language and someone flames you for improper grammar and/or spelling, just ignore their post.
People who are over-educated (yea, you know who you are) love to smite those who dare to use the English language incorrectly. It helps inflate their ego and adds pseudo-points to their IQ score.
Where in fact, their brains cannot compute misspellings and improper uses of grammar fast enough to actually get what others are saying.
We all know what the fuck insert random poster here was trying to say. Why in the fuck would you waste good precious database space to tell the person that English is their second language? Contrary to proper belief, proper use of language has no bearing on a person's intelligence so long as that person communicates effectively.
If you are going to flame, make it a worth while cause. Ye gods.
