Duplicates

Hi Masters of WBW,

Would it be technically possible to get the link to the WBW hosted picture when one is trying to upload a Duplicate ?

I would also love to see links to the original when something is rejected as a duplicate. It's frustrating when so many legit pictures get rejected while large portions of popular series get reposted all the time.

Since there are 2 moderations processes (one where queue mod go quickly through the queue and remove pics that don't fit the rules, then one when mods take pics one by one to eventually accept or reject it), it wouldn't technically be possible to have the duplicate link as it only shows for the second process.
On top of that, sometimes duplicate are deleted because we know the pic is there, but don't have the whole database printed in our brain, so can't give the link in the galleries.

In the case of series though, it is advised that mods try to link new elements of a series to an old one so that the series is complete, if it's possible and they have the time.

I thought as part of the duplicate-checking process, the best-quality image was the one that was kept, irrespective of when they were posted. Is this not still the case?

For reports and pic by pic moderation yes.
Can't really compare if you don't find the duplicate though (but those are usually cropped dups anyway).

I'm just talking about the process when uploading, which I believe compare a md5sum or sha1 of the picture to one already in the WBW database.

Well I guess it would be technically doable yes, but would require a site update though...

I see pics on here daily that are reposts. But I can't upload original content. Very frustrating.
This pic I'm attaching is one of my favorite milfs, that's been on the Internet for years.

I imagine because when the mods remember they've seen a photo before, they trust their instinct and reject the attempted upload.
If you aren't a mod but think you've seen a duplicate, you need to prove it really by linking to the original, otherwise everyone would be claiming all new uploads are duplicates.

If you know the duplicate in the galleries, feel free to report the newest one and give the link to the old one. The newest one (or the worse quality/cropped one) will be deleted.

Because, again, we're human and can't know the whole database (almost 2 million pics) and they probably were cropped/altered compared to the original and thus weren't automatically detected.
That galleries seems to be full of cropped pics though and maybe duplicates, could use some cleaning... If you find the originals in the database, feel free to report them.
