In the US we heard about her first through her singing and then we discovered the topless pics. This was in the pre-internet days when you have to find someone with a copy of the pics and go to their house when their parents weren't home to see them. I think we all developed photographic memories so we'd be able to use those pics later when we were back home in bed.
