She was born in Georgia and raised in Florida. Her parent are Shelby and Mike, who worked in air-freight. In her youth she was a competitive roller skater and ice skater, and later worked as a instructor teaching as well as yoga and pilates.

While working as a professional skater, she required bunion surgery that kept her from skating so she started dancing to support herself.
