By the way, I think he's an illegal immigrant, come to the US to have everything given to you for free.

You have to get a good tuner card. The cheap ones look like crap. A good one puts out a very clear signal that, due to the increase in resolution, looks a lot better than the signal that went in. If this kid has a cable modem, he should just try putting a y-adapter on the coax and running one end directly into a tv or tuner card. Sometimes you'll be able to pick up basic cable for free. I did it for years in an apt back home.

Specifically you won't be able to find a total Television replacement online. TV Tuner cards only work if you're still paying for cable or satellite. If you really must have television channels switch to Satellite. I pay $30 a month for 150 channels of TV, 90 music stations, and then some.

However switching to Satellite be sure to remember that.

1. Picture won't always be crystal clear, especially during high motion scenes.
2. Heavy rain, snow, and big wind WILL kill your reception.

If you want to drop TV in general you can move to Democracy Player which offers a broad range of IPTV. You can also go for Videocast/Podcasts from iTunes (free and there are like 70,000 of them already), and plenty of free online radio stations.

Don't forget the bears, we had to kill bears on the way to school and then wolves on the way home. and only with our loose-leaf notebooks. It was only 25 years ago.
