Bad ass

1969. Beautiful to see; frightening to drive. Big (7 liter!) V-8 power, nose-heavy, loose, vague steering with gobs of understeer until you hit the throttle and then the rear would break loose. Best in a straight line with a long runout, because the brakes were not very good either. Light rear end also conspired to keep most of the 335 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque under the hood and not on the road - especially with the poor tire technology of the day. Would only do 0-60 in 5.7 sec; 1/4 mile in 14.3 sec. 428 and 429 models had reinforcements welded under the front subframe because the torque reaction would twist the flimsy chassis... and the windshield would pop out.

Nostaliga is wonderful, but today's cars are so much better than these 51-year-old relics.
