The “European” Ford Mustang by Bertone - 1965. The result convinced the Ford makers and the car was exhibited at the New York Motor Show in 1965. Although the Ford Mustang was a bombshell in the US, Ford executives weren't entirely happy with its success, particularly as the response in Europe was less euphoric.
Impressed by Nuccio Bertone's designs, Ford decided to give Bertone the chance for a European-influenced Mustang. This received a rolling chassis and conjured up an exceptionally pretty coupe (his 100th design) with typical Bertone insignia. The interior was also Europeanized and featured classic round instruments and lots of leather. With the exception of the rear window and the front design, the lines are reminiscent of the later Fiat Dino Coupé. However, nothing more came of it. Too bad, the car was attractive. Whether a Mustang in a tuxedo would have sold is another question. The whereabouts of the piece is unclear.
