Actually, it is Italian. The pantera was made by the DeTomaso company in Italy. Ford then bought them from DeTomaso and sold them at Ford dealerships as competition to the Chevrolet Corvette. In Italy the Pantera had a decently powered six cylinder, but ford put in their 351 Clevland V8 to better fight the Corvette's. Only lasted a few years because Ford didn't want to ruin the look of the DeTomaso Pantera. New safety laws said that the car needed a bigger front bumper, so instead of complying, Ford quit importing them.
