I believe this image to be an artist's rendering of the original AutoRama show car from Chevy in early 1953 - which they had dubbed the "Corvette" - The level of public interest was so high that Chevy decided to move the showcar directly into production with as few changes as possible...I think the first year's production was about 500 units, and those units surviving today fetch north of a million dollars...
Underpowered at first, Chevy has been making up for that ever since...the newest Corvette standard powerplant pumps out over 500 horsepower...
