At 48 years since it began service, you could definitely call it old. It is till being used by USAF for air superiority, and will be for a while since the way-over-budget F-22 production was halted. In Strike Eagle configuration, they should remain in use through 2030.

Remarkable longevity and stellar record of achievement (over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat) make this one of the great military airplanes ever. It is also the most widely copied - just look at Russian and Chinese fighters.
