One moderator did at one time post the number of pictures waiting to be updated. It was frequently in excess of 6,000. All submissions have to be passed by a moderator to ensure that they meet the site guidelines and don't infringe Copywrite for example. About a year ago they were critically short of moderators and I'm assuming that this hasn't been addressed. A 4-week wait is not uncommon.
