It just won’t die: Windows XP gets another six months Redmond (WA) – Microsoft has stepped up its effort to promote its Vista operating system, but Windows XP just isn’t going away. The company reportedly extended the OEM downgrade timeline once again: As of now, system builders can still offer Windows XP downgrades to their customers and will be able to do so until Vista’s second birthday.Microsoft’s deadline for allowing OEMs to sell PCs with systems that are “downgraded” from Windows Vista to XP is still a moving target. Initially planned to expire on June 30 of this year, Microsoft at first granted an extension to July 31. However, OEMs are still selling the downgrade option (often for a premium) and, according to new reports, the deadline apparently has been officially extended for six more months to January 31, 2009. The information is based on one leaked email sent to an OEM. For the full article, check the source. |

If Microsoft is smart, they will keep XP around until Windows 7... And then they need to prove how Windows 7 is better than XP. |

Microsoft has made a lot of mistakes again with their operation system.. windows 7 will be Vista + extras and fixes.. then the hell is going to start.. Windows 8 -> Totally build from ground up operation system that will NOT be backwards compatible with any written software and drivers.. |

Xp still has a long way ahead of it. But remember how sceptical everyone was when the win98 to winXP transition took place (win2000 was a poor excuse for an OS). Xp needed service packs before it became the OS of choice. Vista is just annoying, i have IPv6, and it's counter-intuitive. Seven seems the way to go. And if Diz-X is right (which he always is), 8 will get us pretty confused and screaming for help. It's needed, but we'll have to come up with serious cash for all the software....or use freeware. |

I just upgraded and built a pretty damn good box with a 64-bit quadcore chip and 8gb's of ram and blah blah blah. I want to try and take advantage of the 64-bit quadcore chip and 8gb's of ram. So i figure I'll spend a few bucks and buy this Fista OS(Ultimate Premium 64-bit) and see if I get a better response for performance than a 32-bit version of XP Pro. Maybe I should wait and start playing more around in the Linux realm. I have a new 64GB OCZ solid state drive on it's way from Pits, PA. So I would like to get something figured out to give me the desired results I've paid for. |
