Of course we are running out of oil. this is a fact.

The question is just: When will it happen? Due to rising prices and new technologies I donīt think one of us will still be alive when that happens. But we have to face the consequences even now.

The energy problem is just one think. There are some solutions like wind, water, nuklear power and the fusion power that might solve this problem.

But oil is also basis for other things, e.g. plastics. Can anyone imagine a world without plastics?

Do you guys really want to live in some of the shitholes that pay that cheap for gas? I mean honestly, I'll glady $4/gal to NOT live in Turkmenistan or Venezuela.

Wasn't that the world like 100 years ago? I mean, it's been done. They're not entirely necessary.

I'm also of the opinion that the demand destruction that is caused by very high prices has the ability to lessen any bell curve of oil depletion.

We also have to figure out an efficient way of extracting shale oil. If that were to happen the United States would have massive reserves of available oil. It'll just take some time, and hopefully lots of alternatives and demand destruction has happened in the meantime.

May not be "necessary" but lemme tell you, I can't imagine medicine w/o the benefits of plastics and other petroleum based products... talk about stepping back into the medical dark-ages!

Yes, and plastics are massively spread throughout consumer products. My point is that if we had to, there are likely alternatives and it is possible to live without plastics (which I don't think it will come to anyway)

Metals are made with oil too

On the other hand, we had this coming. Well the only people to blame is Banks, Governments and ourself. It's like betting on one horse, the horse will die or lose after a while.

the problem isnt "running out" the problem is not having enough to go around we have lots of oil left on the planet the only thing is lots of emerging countries are using more oil.its supply and demand.
i read someone mention oil shale oil shale is incredibly expensive to produce into refineable oil.not to mention it uses incfredible amounts of water.you would do better to hook your ass up to your engine and fart your suv to the market.

You do know a world wide war, without nukes could fix this problem? Or we could just use bikes like the Chinese did for 50 or so years while Mao Ze Dong was in power. Oil will get to a point where we can't afford it, and it will result in the market adapting another energy source to make cars work. The world won't end, and there won't be an anarchy state of the world. Think logically, it will happen over a long period, probably after most of us die. Let your kids deal with the end of the world, like your parents did.
