Yes, yes it does. To add to this too though we don't really have the technology to efficiently refine this oil shale into usable oil on a large scale either. Of course I'm quite sure it wouldn't take much research for it.. |

Next time environmentalists want to stop the increase in production of oil, building a refinery or nuclear power plant and upgrading current systems with more efficent technologies let's hold court in the public square or better yet a gas station. I'm betting that there will be a lynching of lawyers and tree-huggers. Pay-Per-View will never be the same. I live on this planet too and I want it clean too. Do we have the technologies to get all of this cleanly and safely? Oh hell yes. If somebody does make a mess than don't buy their product or stand on their ass until they clean it up. Hence the reason why I don't buy from Exxon due to their refusal to accept responsibility for the Valdez incident. Let's drill for US oil, build refineries and nuke plants and let companies that handle oil do their job. If you want an alternative fuel then go to school and learn how to think, experiment and develop the next fuel without taxpayer support. You'll end up richer than Bill Gates, we won't have to pay for you to drag your ass while wasting taxpayer money and you'll be villified for succeeding at something. Welcome to the new paradigm. BTW, the economies of the world are still growing. Learn to read a balance sheet, P&L statement, take an economics course from a capitalist, and research your polictians before you vote. Then look at naked women. |

sad thing is takes double the amount of energy to produce one barrel of alternative ethenol versus making one barrel gasoline. it's an expensive process. |

Like its been said before the U.S. could be a leader in producing oil. We have a estimated 700 year supply sitting up in Alaska and one sitting off the coast of California. Not to mentioned one in the Gulf of Mexico. Instead we just keep paying arabs for our oil. Looks like Brazil got smart and updated it's technology and is not producing some oil. The reason the price of gas is so cheap in some of the other countries isn't because they have more oil or are refining it faster its because the government covers it to keep the price down. We, U.S., don't have that because we live in a free trade economy, those other countries don't. Oil is put on the world trade market and bid on. Once people realize the true cost of a barrel of oil isn't $130 the prices at the pump will fall. People can complain all they want about the price of oil is due to supply and demand but thats not the main component to this problem. The only country who's supply for oil has increased that much is China... And like all the experts have predicated that countries economy will fold one day due to communism. The day I look forward to is when all the oil is used up and the middle east has nothing more to keep it a float. |

![]() No, we don't. At current usage levels there isn't 700 years worth of oil on the entire planet, and that's disregarding projected demand increases AND whether or not it's recoverable oil. Further, the "Arab country" argument is a political canard. The largest exporter of petroleum to the United States is Canada. Canada and Mexico combine for approximately 40% of US petroleum imports, and another significant portion of our (US) oil imports come from non-Arab countries like Colombia, Nigeria, Russia, Venezuela, Algeria, etc. |

Yeah, you saw how that worked out for me, right? Apparently not. Apparently you also don't see the edit button, but clearly you see the "new post" button. Funny what we see. Want to see an elephant? |

EricLindros is right. People shouldn't be asking "But how can I drive to work with gas so high?", instead they should be asking "Where can I move to be closer to work?" or "Is there a train, a bus, light rail, or something other than car which I can use to get to work?". The biggest problem in the US over the next ten years isn't terrorists at all. In my opinion it's trying to handle the miscalculation of subsidizing suburban sprawl with cheap oil. We need to stop thinking about how to get more oil and start thinking about how to rebuild American cities in a way that helps to ween us off oil, natural gas, and coal. I see a lot of Western European people here, let's ask them what most of their commutes are like compared to ours. Ask them what their smaller city centers look like compared to the American sprawl-ridden-strip-mall-towns of similar size... |

well the truth is that Venezuela has more crude oil than Saudi Arabia, however its a heavier grade and would cost more to produce....ultimately we would all pay less, but in America the President has to think about his own pocket first (big fat oil ties) and so theyll keep going until hybrids and other solutions take actual money out of their pockets...![]()
