When these first came out as the 4 cylinder 18/85 the Borg Warner Type 35 auto box was inside the engine sump. Unlike the Mini/1300 autos, where the sump and transmission shared the same oil, these had ATF (automatic transmission fluid) inside a casing and SAE20/40 in the sump. The aluminium casings were porous, so oils mixed , gearboxes stopped working.
